Liberal Democrats plan for Suffolk
It's time for change on Suffolk County Council. The Conservatives - who have run the council for years - are complacent and out of touch.
The Liberal Democrats have listened to local residents and produced a positive plan for Suffolk. We will:-
1. Ensure dignity for older people by boosting investment in social care.
The NHS is in crisis, The Lib Dems will reduce the number of patients trapped in expensive hospital beds because of delays organising care.
2. Invest in infrastructure to support new housing - roads, schools and surgeries
The Conservatives have backed building tens of thousands of new homes in Suffolk without the roads, public transport and local services needed to support them. The Lib Dems will use the county council's influence to ensure vital infrastructure is provided when it is needed.
3. Fund a mental health programme in Suffolk schools
Mental health has been the poor relation of health care for too long. the liberal Democrats will use the county council's public health powers to deliver a county-wide mental health programme in schools.
4. Fix our roads and pavements
The Lib dems will take back control of the highways contract unless there is a rapid improvement. We will invest £2million more than the Conservatives to fix potholes, mend pavements and cut verges more quickly.
5. Improve local transport
The Conservatives have cut bus services, including Park and Ride, with little regard to the effectthat this has had on people's lives. The Lib dems will use the government's concessionary fares grant to extend the time that concessionary passes can be used.
6. Protect our libraries
Suffolk Lib Dems have consistently opposed Conservative plans to cut our libraries. The Lib Dems will protect our libraries and assist them to fulfil their potential as community hubs.
