Giles Turner

I've lived in St John's Ward since 2007, but my association goes back even further as a pupil of St John's primary school. I've many happy memories playing on the Rec and realise it's an important focal point for our young people, It's looking rather tired at the moment but if elected as your counclllor that is something I intend to change.

The pandemic gave me an opportunity to really explore St John's ward as I never have before. This is a great community to live in friendly vibrant and beautiful. I therefore want to look at ways that we can improve the social interactions for everybody.

It is important that those people that feel socially isolated can be signposted to the wonderful and friendly community groups that we already have within the ward.

As I have a young family I have encountered the problems that parking in the area can cause. For those with mobility issues, those with young families or older, cars parked on the pavement can produce difficulties forcing people onto the road. It has also highlighted to me the speed at which some cars go down side roads in the ward. I pledge to look at ways we can both produce safer parking for residents and create vitally needed parking spaces for families without off road parking to be able to park their cars as near to their home as possible.

We have great local shops in the area and I would like to raise their profile and create more opportunities for local businesses. By creating a diverse local shopping experience, it will be great for the economy, great for residents and green.

I work within the NHS as the Head of Workforce Research, Inteligence and Systems for the SNEE ICS. It is my role to insure that we have the right workforce, with the right training within health and social care not just now but in the decades ahead. I therefore realise that there are not always quick fixes but if elected to represent you, my resolve will not be just for the present issues but to grow a sustainable local community for the future.
