Those totals in full, the Lib Dem's share is the only one to significantly increase
Now that the election is a couple of months behind us and things have started to settle it's a good time to reflect. We analysed the results of the local Borough Council elections in 2008 and 2010 (no Borough Council election took place in 2009), this involved a lot of number crunching.
The results were very encouraging, Out of the four main parties the Lib Dems increased their share of the vote by 7%, the Tories and Greens' share both fell by 5.5% and 3% respectively. Labour's share grew, but only by 1.5%.
This was not a case of a simple large majority for one or two of our candidates, out of the 13 Borough Council wards that fall within the Ipswich Parliamentary constituency ten of them showed a swing to the Lib Dems, with only two swinging towards Labour and one to the Conservatives! So whilst we may not be toppling them from their seats just yet, we're catching up fast! The message from Ipswich's voters is a simple one of increasing support of the work we are doing in the town, and a reward for the hard work put in by all our volunteers, helpers and campaigners in Ipswich in the weeks before May 6th. Thank You!
