50 new buildings jobs created in Ipswich

Actions taken by one of your LibDem councillors has led to 50 new jobs being created in Ipswich in just a 12 week period.

First of all, money was raised through being in the Haven Gateway growth area, which is a partnership between the private sector (including BT and the ports of Felixstowe, Harwich & Ipswich) with the councils of Ipswich, Colchester and surrounding areas.

Councillor Richard Atkins explains "We used this money to fund a 'Building One Stop Shop' or 'BOSS', which is located in Grimwade Street close to the Suffolk College. In its first 12 weeks, 50 people were found jobs. It's great to have helped 50 people into work, particularly as 25 of them had been unemployed for more than 6 months."

Richard, who has held the portfolio for planning and economic development, added "the regeneration of Ipswich is obvious for all to see, but it is important that this is not just for the well-off. Obviously we hope to help more people into construction training and construction jobs."

With the ongoing high demand for people in construction, whether locally, or to prepare for the London 2012 Olympic Games, this facility will help people into jobs and training. So if you know of somebody seeking work, why not suggest they go along to the "BOSS" in Grimwade Street, where they will get a warm welcome.
