Graffiti like this is getting rubbed out in Ipswich
Ipswich's own Graffiti squad has proved its worth in its first full year of operation. Whilst there are still some persistent 'artists' about and properties, that for legal reasons, cannot be cleaned up there has been a huge improvement.
In the first year over 580 calls have been answered with graffiti removed from:
· 43 properties
· 74 pieces of street furniture
· 12 roads or pavements
· 21 bus shelters and
· 24 subways and statues
In total over 300 locations have had graffiti removed in the first year.
One of the big problems has been removing graffiti from private property, which requires the property owner's permission, and negotiations with the owners can take time and our assistance is often refused.
One success story is Virgin media and Ipswich has negotiated a contract that allows 500 boxes to be cleaned per week.
Other initiatives are on-going but cannot be described here for fear the 'artists' are reading!
If you want to report graffiti please call the Cleaner Ipswich Hotline on 01473 433000. Over 170 people have done that In recent months and had their own graffiti issues cleaned up. Try it - it works.
