The Regent - performing well after being freed from Labour
After 77 years of hard work the 1725 seats at the Ipswich Regent are being replaced this summer. This is part of a £500,000 refurbishment programme approved by Ipswich Borough Council and supported by Ipswich Lib Dem Councillors.
The work will involve replacing all the seats, providing new carpet and improving the auditorium area. Theatre managers will also use the opportunity to improve the light and sound in the theatre.
Work is due to commence on the Grade Two listed building on June 18th and will take 13 weeks.
Under the LibDem/Tory administration the Ipswich Regent has greatly improved as the talented management have been allowed to allowed to breath after so many years of being held back under labour.
The Regent which was threatened with closure under Labour and was losing £800,000 per year is now getting far more theatre goers through it's doors and is paying it's way as a successful and vibrant draw to Ipswich. Exactly what it should be!
