Action on Ipswich kerb crawlers getting results with 5 arrests in the last week alone

June 5, 2007 8:02 PM

Over 40 men have been accosted since March 6th by the police with 29 of them arrested once challenged as the campaign against kerb crawlers in Ipswich continues. The results show that the majority of kerb crawlers are now from outside of Ipswich.

Making Ipswich a no kerb crawling zone is part of the Ipswich Prostitution Strategy adopted by the authorities and in which Ipswich Borough Council plays a key role.

Kerb Crawlers are now being warned that they risk having their lives destroyed if they persist in targeting our streets. They will now face humiliation at home and via the press, will face court and will be fined and have their their driving license taken away.

Other work continue on the 5 point prostitution strategy:

Routes are being developed out fro the prostitutes. Each woman is receiving individual attention to make sure they can get out and stay out of prostitution.

Those thinking of getting into prostitution are being tackled early.

We are working with local communities and keeping them informed of developments - to work the strategy has to be implemented with local people.
