Lib Dems like Inga have made Ipswich cleanest Town in UK
NATIONAL AWARDS: IPSWICH CLEANS UP
Ipswich was today celebrating after scooping the Clean
Britain Award for
2007.
"This is an award for the whole town," said Councillor Inga
Lockington,
Ipswich Borough Council's Environment portfolio-holder.
"There is great pride in Ipswich and residents told us they
wanted a cleaner
Ipswich. We have invested a lot of money in street cleaning,
set up a
graffiti squad and combined litter enforcement with
education in schools.
That investment is paying off. This is excellent news and I
am very proud of
my hard-working staff and of all the residents."
Ipswich battled its way to the final of the British Cleaning
Council - Clean
Britain Award 2007 and pipped the London borough of Lewisham
to the post.
The Borough Council spends more than a quarter of a million
pounds each year
cleaning the streets of Ipswich. Anyone who sees litter,
graffiti or
fly-tipping should telephone the Cleaner Ipswich Hotline,
01473 433000.
