Investing £150,000 in a popular Ipswich bus route is paying off - 22% more
passengers are using the service after it increased to six buses an hour.
Thanks to the investment by Ipswich Borough Council, Ipswich Buses services
No. 1 and No. 3, which run to and from Ravenswood and the town centre and
the railway station, now have six buses an hour (Monday to Saturday, day
times). The services started as one bus an hour and were then increased to
four an hour.
Before the latest increase in frequency was made in December passenger
numbers were already up 13% on the previous year. Now the increases are
accelerating, with hundreds of extra passengers making use of the services
since 3rd December.
The Council's cash injection of £150,000 has also allowed for a limited
extension of Service 1 on to the rapidly growing Ransomes Industrial Estate
so the new driving test centre and Makro store are served by frequent and
convenient public transport links.
Ipswich Borough Council now plans to spend an additional £80,000 on better
bus stops and shelters.
All the money has been secured as part of the planning permission for a new
B&Q store on Ransomes Europark.
