House builders have urged the government and the development industry to agree long-term environmental performance targets for new housing in excess of standards adopted in Scandinavia.
The call came from the Home Builders Federation's Stewart Baseley speaking at the Housebuilding 2006 conference in London.

Local Lib Dem Councillor Richard Atkins, who was recently elected as the Chairman of Regional Cities East ("RCE"), welcomed Mr Baseley's speech, saying "this ties in with the programme of RCE, which aims to achieve a 60% reduction in carbon emissions. Doing nothing is just not an option, we have to accelerate our response to the enormous challenge of global warming."
