Andrew Cann (right) and other local lib dem campaign against health care cuts
The following is the text of a letter published by the Evening Star - Friday 6th October 2006
"At September's council meeting Conservative county administrators claimed that East Suffolk and Ipswich Headway had only four deferred assessments and no cuts since care package reviews had started.
In that time:
23 patients have had cuts in their care packages with eight having all care cut
14 clients need more care which is not being funded
12 are awaiting funding for a place
Not a single patient who has had their case 'reviewed' has had more care. All 'reviews' have cut care or left it the same.
Headway offers a service that is not provided by any other provider.
Cuts to care packages at Headway are being made by people who do not understand acquired bran injuries and who have been ordered to cut care.
Suffolk County Council must hold a moratorium on cuts to care packages at Headway and have an independent review conducted by brain injury specialist into the cases the county council is responsible for funding.
Decisions are being made now which are affecting adversely people's health and putting in jeopardy the future of Headway in this area.
The administration claims it is not cutting care - if the Tories have any confidence in their claim they will have nothing to fear from an independent review.
