Nuclear Power incompatible with Government's own Sustainable Development Strategy

July 19, 2006 2:34 PM
Andrew Cann 'Our NHS problems in Suffolk will not be solved until the Government changes it's funding formula'.

Copies of this report are available from Cllr. Andrew Cann

The Sustainable Development Commission (SDC), advisers to the Government on Sustainability issues, has concluded, as part of their evidence to the Energy Review, that there is no justification for bringing forward plans for a new nuclear power programme.

Further they have cited the Government's own Sustainable Development Strategy as being incompatible with the development of further nuclear power plants.

In the SDC's report, "The role of nuclear power in a low carbon economy", concerns over nuclear power are raised in 5 areas:- Intergenerational Issues, Cost, Safety and Security, Technological lock-in and reduction in energy demand.

If you would like to read this report or the SDC report "Is nuclear the answer?" you can download these documents at www.sd-commission.org.uk or order a free copy. As an alternative Cllr.
