Ipswich moves closer to 50% recycling with Brown Bin able to take kitchen waste

July 3, 2006 6:19 PM
Cllr. Inga Lockington

Lib Dem Cllr. Inga Lockington "Recycling will rise to 50% with Ipswich Lib Dems".

Non animal kitchen waste such as peelings and leftover salad leaves will be allowed in Brown Bins following a change in the certification covering Cliff Quay recycling plant.

Inga Lockington, Lib Dem portfolio holder for the Environment said "Last year there were all kinds of issues - were windfall apples kitchen waste or garden waste? This year that argument won't apply.

The ideal would be for more people to have garden composters - they can take all vegetable waste and you can get advice from the customer services centre in the town hall.

At present we recycle 38% of our waste. With these changes will shall soon be recycling 50%. It is absolutely vital that we look for alternatives to landfill wherever possible and we are going a long way towards this in Ipswich".
