Cllr. Andrew Cann "The Tories are cutting services to the elderly whilst spending tax payers money on advice."
Suffolk County Council conservatives were embarrassed this week when a European Contract notice for £2m of consultancy placed by them was discovered in a year in which they have cut services to the elderly and disabled.
The contract was placed in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) under an accelerated procedure. In order for the accelerated procedure to be used, the Council must state the reasons for placing the contract quickly. This was to have advice on the upcoming Local Government White Paper. What the contract was also for was to advise on 'externalisation'.
County Cllr. Andrew Cann, Lib Dem Deputy Leader, said, 'In a year in which the Conservatives have slashed spending on services to those most in need they have at the same time been putting a £2m contract together for consultants' advice. If the Conservatives have £2m to spare this should be used to provide the services the County Council is there to provide not in order to advise itself.'
