Lib Dem Cllr. Richard Atkins is responsible for Economic Development in Ipswich
Following on from expanding Ipswich Market and promoting a Business Improvement District within the Town Centre the Lib Dems have been involved in further economic boosts to the town.
Ipswich Lib Dem portfolio holder for economic development, Cllr. Richard Atkins, has been pleased that Ipswich has benefited from it's involvement in The Haven Gateway Partnership by being recognised as an economic sub-region. This will mean more investment coming into Ipswich and the surrounding area. This follows on from the Governments recent 'minded to' approval to Growth Point Status which will see investment in infrastructure in the sub-region. The East of England Regional Assembly (EERA) then recommended that there should be only 4 recognised growth areas instead of 14 - with Ipswich highlighted as one of the 4.
"The hard work by the Haven Gateway Partnership is going to be rewarded with money for infrastructure and further regeneration" said Richard "and the announcement is expected soon which could provide the funding to turn St Lawrence's Church into a community asset in the town centre. Ipswich Labour must be kicking themselves that they abstained on this - they just could not bring themselves to support it."
The Haven Gateway sub-region including Ipswich, Harwich and Felixstowe, is one of the fastest growing areas in the country with Ipswich at its core.
