County Councillors Andrew Cann & Inga Lockington have applied for £1,000 of locality money to be given towards the Broom Hill feasibility study. This study sponsored by Ipswich Borough Council under the Lib Dem / Con coalition will prove once and for all whether Broom Hill has a future and how this could best be developed.
Andrew Cann said "The closure of Broom Hill Lido under the Labour administration was a sad day for Ipswich. Whilst the difficulties in re-opening this site are great we must not fail to accept the challenge. By supporting the Friends of Broom Hill Pool in this way we feel not only are we giving some financial assistance we are getting behind them. I have met the group and was struck by their professionalism and dedication. I wish them the best with the feasibility study."

Broomhill Pool was listed Grade II by English Heritage in 2001, and the Friends of Broomhill Pool was set up in 2002 to campaign to secure the future of the pool. It is now a registered charity and is working alongside Ipswich Borough Council (the pool's owners). The long term aim of the trust is to restore Broomhill Pool to it's original condition, improve facilities and reinstate original features, including the clock tower and fountain - thereby allowing current and future generations to enjoy the experience of swimming in the open air. As in any important restoration project, continuing financial support is valid to ensure a high profile, both locally and nationally.
