During Labours time in office the number of families waiting for a Council house has increased by 500,000 to 1.5m families.
In the South East this increase has been the largest in the UK at 77%.
One new social housing unit (Council House) is built for every 5 sold off under Labour. This means that the numbers waiting rise every year.
"These figures reveal the scale of the housing crisis under Labour.' says local Councillor Andrew Cann.
'House prices are so high that social housing represents the only real prospect of housing for our most needy front line workers. In Ipswich nurses for instance will have great difficulty finding decent accommodation'.
'The Government must allow more homes to be built rather than further tightening up the restrictions started by the previous Conservative Government'.
